My Style of Photography
Many photographers have either generalized, or very specific, styles of photography. I try not to stick with any one style and instead adapt to the situation at hand. For example:
• You may want an informal or off-hand approach to a wedding
album. I would adapt to a more photojournalistic style.
• A real estate agent may want a very specific look to pictures of
a house for sale. I would adapt to shooting with an emphasis on
geometries and clean lines.
• Or, a woman may want something a little more "private" to give
to her husband. I would adapt to the comfort level and needs
she expressed.

Like I said above, I am not one to get stuck in the same old routine. I have had many jobs, some routine and some not. One of my favorite jobs was working as a mate on a drift fishing boat out of Light House Point, FL. I started working on this boat right out of high school. I got to meet many people from many walks of life. And what could beat working on the ocean and fishing for a living? While I was working on this boat, I decided to buy a camera to take pictures of some of the tourists and regular customers. That first camera was a Canon Rebel 2000 that used film. I didn't know anything about film but decided to try it out anyway. After a while, some of the customers, both tourists and regulars, wanted pictures.
That's when a lightbulb went off in my head. I started going out with the boat on trips that I was not scheduled to work, taking pictures of everyone on the boat, especially those who wanted to get some good pictures of their trip. This really made people happy, so much so that by the time I left that boat, my camera had paid for itself several times over and I realized that this may be something that I could do full time in the future.
But then college got in the way... I pretty much forgot all about my camera and stashed away, occasionally taking it out for vacations and family gatherings.
After college, I began working for the family business, run by my father. It is a manufacturing facility that specializes in medical device components. I began learning to program and operate large CNC equipment, some engineering, etc. Eventually, we decided to completely overhaul our original website. I bought a camera to take new pictures of all 1,200 inventory products. As I was taking the pictures for the web, I started getting a little creative with positioning, lighting and all that good stuff. The camera I bought was so much fun that I started bringing it home with me on weekends to take pictures of my family on our little outings around town. Doing this made me so happy, it was such a stress reliever that I decided to start a business. This business.
Photography has become my passion. My family is my inspiration. And I love bringing my creativity into the lives of others to capture unique, once-in-a-lifetime photos. |
